Bible Study Resources!

Online Bibles

Blue Letter Bible

Picture
In their words:
The Blue Letter Bible provides powerful tools for an in-depth study of God's Word through our free online reference library, with study tools that are grounded in the historical, conservative Christian faith.

In Noah's Words:
This is an excellent online study Bible. Just type in the verse reference, and click "tools" to see everything from original languages to cross-references, to maps and timelines. The screen can get a bit busy at times, but there is a lot of good content here if you are willing to go digging.

STEP Online Study Bible

Picture
In their words:
STEP stands for 'Scripture Tools for Every Person' and is designed to give users across the world, particularly those in disadvantaged countries, free access to trustworthy Bible expertise. Created by Bible scholars at Tyndale House, Cambridge, UK, it is curated by a non-denominational body of scholars and other volunteers who are passionate about sharing accurate information on the Bible.

In Noah's Words:
This is my go-to online Study Bible. When used with a word-for-word translation, it becomes (at least in my opinion) the best free tool for doing original language word studies or research. Just hover a word to see it defined at the top of the page, or click to see details like the number of times it is used in scripture, its root, and other nerdy goodness.

YouVersion Online Bible

Picture
In their words:
The Bible App offers a free Bible experience for smartphones, tablets, and online at Bible.com. Our generous partners make it possible for us to offer 3,000 Bible versions in 2,000 languages for free, and without advertising.

In Noah's words:
Kinda the bread and butter Bible app. It comes with loads of reputable translations and reading plans to boot! You can find links to download the app in the "mobile apps" section below.

The Bible Project

Picture
In their words:
The Bible Project is a nonprofit, crowdfunded organization that makes free resources like videos, podcasts, articles, and classes to help people experience the Bible in a way that is approachable and transformative. They do this by showcasing the literary art of the Scriptures and tracing key biblical themes from Genesis to Revelation.

In Noah's words:
If you could smash the best Biblical scholarship and digital artists together, you'd get The Bible Project. I love them so much I own a giant book that contains their illustrated summary for every book of the Bible. They also have a great app if you're in need of yet another Bible app.

Here are a few links to my favorite series:
  • How to Read the Bible
  • Book Overviews
  • Tree of Life Theme - Because trees.

Enduring Word Bible Commentary Online

Picture
In their words:
Enduring Word exists to promote the work of Christian discipleship and evangelism worldwide, mainly through the publication and dissemination of the Bible teaching work of David Guzik and like-minded people.

In Noah's words:
This is an easy to read and well respected commentary! One of the few free and full (OT and NT) commentaries online.

Open Access Digital Theological Library

Picture
In their words:
The mission of Open Access Digital Theological Library (OADTL) is to curate high-quality content in religious studies and related disciplines from publisher websites, institutional repositories, scholarly societies, archives, and stable public domain collections.

In Noah's words:
If you're in a deep theological rabbit hole, and want to know more about something like the homousian and the finer points of Arian heresies  - use this tool. It's not the prettiest and you might have to dig a little bit to find resources that have the info you are looking for, but its all in the public domain!

Thirdmill Online Seminary

Picture
In their words:
Most pastors in the world have no theological education and no way to obtain one. Thirdmill is working to meet this global need by creating and distributing a high-quality, multimedia seminary curriculum in the major languages of the world. Our goal is to make seminary-level education available to Evangelical Christians in their own lands, in their own languages, for free.

In Noah's Words:
As far as free online classes go, you'd be hard pressed to beat Thirdmill. They're theologically orthodox (that's a good thing) and while I haven't seen all of their content, I have appreciated everything I have watched.
Especially if you cant make it to our hermeneutics class, check out their 11 part series on scripture interpretation!

Princeton Theological Seminary Commons

Picture
In their words:
The Theological Commons is a digital library of over 158,000 resources on theology and religion. Developed in partnership with the Internet Archive, it contains books, journals, audio recordings, photographs, manuscripts, and other formats dating from 975 C.E. to the present.

In Noah's Words:
I mean... c'mon. It's Princeton's free online theological commons. Geek your heart out. Their partnership with The Internet Archive is awesome, but this resource is best suited for those niche topics.
Reading Plans

She Reads Truth & He Reads Truth

Picture
In their own words:
He Reads Truth and She Reads Truth are worldwide communities who read God’s Word together every day. Founded in 2015 and 2012, He Reads Truth and She Reads Truth invite men and women to engage with Scripture through daily curated reading plans, online conversation led by a smart and thoughtful community of contributors, and resources created at the intersection of beauty, goodness and Truth. This community of “Men and Women in the Word of God every day” represents a long list of cities and countries, a variety of backgrounds and traditions, and countless real-life stories. But there is a commonality that binds us: we believe God’s Word is Truth. So we read. Every day we read a new passage together—working our way through books of the Bible, topics that matter, and seasons of the Church calendar. We engage with God’s Word and with each other. And we keep coming back, on the hard days and the good days, because God and His Word never change, regardless of our circumstances.
Kids Read Truth, founded in 2016, produces resources designed to equip kids with biblical literacy and instill in them a love for God’s Word.

In Noah's words:
If I could pick just one reading plan for most adults....this would be a strong contender. Its also completely free if you don't mind having a digital reading plan. This is a great choice for a shared reading plan in your small groups.
Their apps have a really clean interface, but I much prefer the YouVersion app because it includes many more translations.

Noah's Printable Favorites

Picture
In Noah's words:
This Google Drive folder has some of my favorite printable Bible reading plans. I especially like the redemptive history and chronological plans because they help break the "routine" of Bible reading for me. Oh, and there's a tracking sheet for the Bible in a year with pretty colors in here too.

A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace

Picture
In their own words:
What does it mean to behold Christ? We want to spend a few minutes a day with you walking through the New Testament, one chapter at a time. This year, we will fix our gaze upon Christ so that we may know Him—not only with our minds but with our hearts as well. Together we will learn that who Jesus is changes everything.

In Mark's words:
I used to have really long commutes to/from work so found and enjoyed some different "Year in the Bible with Daily Grace" series. This year they are going through the new testament one chapter every day. A good use of windshield time : )

Daily Audio Bible and Daily Audio Bible Kids!

Picture
In their own words:
The Daily Audio Bible is committed to guiding Christian’s worldwide into an intimate and daily friendship with the Bible.  This is accomplished by providing the spoken Word of God freely in multiple languages and by the creation and establishment of communities that have no geographical limitations.  Our efforts are devoted to exposing the rich texture and heritage of the Bible’s life changing power by educating the Believer on how to engage in and interact with the ancient Scriptures in a future world.

In Noah's words:
I'll be honest and say that Ezra's love of DAB Kids is the reason this is on my list. He thinks its so cool to have the Bible read for him by Ezekiel. The buttons below take you to the adult version, but you can search for Daily Audio Bible Kids wherever you listen to your podcasts, or click the "kids" link in the title above.
